Yes, you need to renew your prescription every year. Renewal is an annual process that requires you to update your medical information so your provider can continue prescribing your medication. It only takes a few minutes, and is important to ensure your provider has the correct information on file. You’ll receive a couple of reminders from us when it’s time for you to renew— all you need to do is answer a few questions– the same way you would during an annual checkup, but from the comfort of your home. Then you’re set for a whole new year!
Our priority is ensuring that you continue to receive your birth control, but we may not be able to continue sending your current brand without updating your medical information. While not required, it's important to provide your blood pressure when renewing your prescription. This information helps the provider make sure the type of birth control you want is safe for you. If you don’t have your blood pressure handy - no worries! You can get a blood pressure reading for free at most pharmacies, including CVS and Walgreens.
The progestin-only pill (POP) has only one hormone, unlike the combined pill, which contains both estrogen and progestin. It works by thickening cervical mucus and thinning the uterine lining, which makes It harder for sperm to reach an egg. POP is often the right choice for patients with a history of cardiovascular conditions like hypertension. If you don't know your blood pressure or can't provide an updated reading, the provider will only be able to prescribe a progestin-only birth control method to ensure your safety.
